6 year- old author helps little ones
This is the story of Abigail Brand. A six year- old, writing her own books. She donates the money she makes, to the neonatal intensive care unit or NICU in Lehigh Valley Hospital in PA.
Abigail started writing when she was 4, when her mother was pregnant with little sister Natalie.
The little author was curious about the NICU, when Natalie had to be tested for bowel problems.
Her visit to the NICU inspired her to help, so she decided to write a book and sell it, to donate the money.
Abigail exclaims, "When Natalie was little I used to call her little, that was her nickname and that's where I got the idea of the Hello Little Series."
Abigail's mother Renee is very proud of her daughter, because she wanted to do more with her writing.
"I knew that it was something that she has always loved to do. But this time she wanted to make it count for something and she decided to raise money with it. In December she donated $415.50," explains Renee.
Denise Keeler,Director at the NICU, is inspired by Abigail's books and the idea to donate her profits. Abigail's work has made a huge impact on the nurses.
Keeler states, " Having Abigail donate that book to the NICU really made an impact on the nurses. It was amazing to see such a young girl with such talent, to think that she could make up a story like that. So I think it boosted the morale for the nurses, to see that someone that little could care a lot about what they do...something that they're so passionate about doing all along. To see a little 6 year old be able to pick up on that passion and give back. It was pretty exciting."
Abigail is very happy and enthusiastic about what she is doing. She also has advice for young wanna-be writers out there.
"If they are able to write they can just write a book and that's all you really have to do. I mean you're never really too young if you want to do it and you know how. And so you can just do it, you can just write a book and publish it," advises Abigail.
