SANDF deployed to border to fight crimes
The South African National Defence Force (SANDF), working together with various law enforcement members and officials are scheduled to be deployed to various border positions to stop and prevent crimes that occur on and across South Africa’s borders.
Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development Jeff Radebe, addressed a media conference at the Justice, Crime Prevention and Security (JCPS) summit on Sunday and noted that government plans to work with different stake holders, departments and security apparatus’ to solve various border crimes across the country’s borders.
"Effective border management is part of the government crime prevention strategy, which assists to deal with cross-border crime syndicates and curb poaching," Radebe said.
The Minister explained that more than half a dozen military regiments have been sent to various borders positions, whilst four more will be deployed in April along the Zimbabwe, Swaziland and Lesotho borders, respectfully.
Minister Radebe also noted that thirteen rhino poachers were captured thus far, since these operations began. In addition, many other cross-border criminal activities were stopped, resulting in apprehension of many criminal suspects by SANDF forces.
