Everyone loves a farmer's market. But do you know what actually goes into farming? If you want to grow your own vegetables and eat healthy, here's how to get started

All you need to build your new farm is -a little bit of land, some equipment and a class to get you started.

The Seed Farm is Lehigh Valley's new farmer training and agricultural business incubator. It partners with Penn State Extension.

The program trains people who aspire to be farmers.

In addition to practical training, there is a course, called 'Exploring the Small Farm Dream'.

It is provided by the Penn State Extension, and gives farmers research-based information about farming and business plans.

There has been a great response from people who want to sign up for the classes. It is as if everyone wants to be a farmer.

Tianna DuPont, Sustainable Agriculture Educator, Penn State Extension says, " The response has really been overwhelming. We've had more than a thousand beginning and aspiring farmers in a number of different classes all across the south east region of the state. And these folks really want to get started in farming."

One of them is Anton Shannon, who worked on a farm, but now wants to build his own. He has partnered with Sarah Edmonds, and grows organic vegetables on a small patch.

"We decided that we would do a small scale vegetable farm and market to local consumers and grow organically," explains Anton Shannon.

Sarah Edmonds chips in, " It suits my personality. I like the quality of the work, I like the pace of the work and then after working both those jobs I had to try to go that next step and that's where the seed farm came in."

Together, Shannon and Edmonds, grow a cornucopia of organic veggies and deliver them to local families.

All the students in Tianna Dupont's current class, hope to learn as much as possible, to test farming as a suitable, sustainable option.

So if you want to live the farming dream, and get close to terra firma, you know where to look, and where to learn.
