Suicide car bombing kills 26 in Baghdad
Iraqi officials say 26 people have been killed when a suicide bomber detonated an explosives-packed car in southeastern Baghdad.
Police officials said the attack occurred at 11:00 a.m. on Friday in Baghdad's predominantly Shiite neighborhood of Zafaraniyah. They say 53 people were wounded in the attack.
Hospital officials confirmed the death toll.
All officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to release the information.
Insurgents have stepped up violence in Iraq since U.S. military withdrawal last month. More than 200 people have been killed since the beginning of the year.
